  • Overview

    The Sr. Linux Administrator is responsible for managing 200+ Linux/Unix servers in our diverse enterprise. This position will be expected to provide production operating system and hardware support for all Red Hat Linux systems as well as other various distributions of Linux/Unix. This support will include performance monitoring, security patching, installation, and automation through shell scripting. This individual will interface with other infrastructure and applications teams to determine systems requirements and architectural design. The administrator will also leverage our VMWare environment to administer the virtualization and rapid deployment of servers.  

     

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Systems administration - Author scripts that will monitor system performance and failures and send out alerts. Serve as part of team's bi-weekly on call rotation for 24-hour support. Troubleshoot all errors and incidents that arise. Create and manage support tickets with maintenance vendors. Continuing education is required as new software and OS levels are released.

     

    Virtualization and Automation - Leverage our VMWare virtualization environment to create templates for Linux servers for automated deployment and cloning.

     

    Security compliance - Maintain vigilance in keeping our systems patched to the latest operating system levels and to mitigate security vulnerabilities. Develop and administer Red Hat Satellite server to consolidate patching and improve Pier 1's security posture. Assist security team with security related inquiries or mitigations.

     

    Architecture - Work with Storage, Network and Application teams to assist in architectural changes to existing systems and implementations of new systems. Effectively communicate issues and risk. Ensure system architecture meets regulatory compliance. Document and report on systems configuration.

    Education & Experience

    • 5-10 years similar experience needed
    • Bachelor Degree preferred
    • Knowledge of IBM AIX and Red Hat Linux Server a must
    • Understanding of IP networks, storage devices and backup software required
    • Knowledge of Oracle applications required
    • Must be capable of lifting equipment to mount in racks (approx. 40 lbs.)
    • Must be available for on call 24/7 365 days rotating weekly schedule
    • Must be able to work nights and weekends as required by system outages and maintenance.
