    The primary purpose of the Operations Manager is to provide operational leadership to the Pier 1 Distribution Center while embracing change, driving results and executing flawlessly. By partnering with the DC Director, this position is accountable for all functions of the Distribution Center Operations, as well as the development of the local leadership team, which will report to this position. Responsibilities include all DC Operations, including facilitating the efficient flow of goods throughout each department, promoting the highest level of service to our internal and external customers, with a continuous acceleration towards excellence.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Thought Leadership:

    • Implements world-class best practices to create a competitive advantage.

    • Assists the DC Director in the development of business strategies and ensure their implementation to achieve expected results.
    • Build relationships with Corporate, Field Partners and Stores, in order to execute strategies.

     Results Leadership:

    • Leads local Leadership team in achieving aggressive goals and objectives as outlined in the Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) of Safety, Service, Quality and Cost.
    • Assists the DC Director in the development of a well-rounded business plan and execution strategies to deliver expected results.
    • Responsible for the financial performance of the DC, including effective payroll management, operational expense control, damage reduction and capital expenditures.
    • Tactical execution of daily, weekly and quarterly objectives.
    • Continuously pursues innovative process improvements to increase efficiencies.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
    • Maintain an effective Safety program emphasizing employee involvement and training.
    • Protect company assets through the proper maintenance of all company equipment.
    • Makes it Happen - uses talents, shows initiative, takes sensible risks, makes a decision and follows through.

    People Leadership:

    • Manages, coaches, trains, motivates and develops Supervisors and Associates to maximize performance.
    • Continually mentors and motivates team around continuous improvement and development of a performance culture.
    • Engages team to ensure a high level of associate involvement and continually looks for ways to develop team and self.
    • Assesses talent of Supervisors and provides feedback for career planning goals and developmental plans.
    • Ensures effective communication vehicles are utilized such that Associates have access to relevant changes and updates to company and DC information in a timely manner.
    • Delegates responsibilities to Supervisors and Administrative staff.
    • Recognized as a leader that accepts feedback and continually looks for ways to develop self.
    • Establishes effective partnership with the Distribution Center Human Resources Manager.
    • Makes a Point - communicates openly, listens earnestly, gives feedback honestly and takes input graciously.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in related disciplines such as Logistics / Supply Chain, Business, Retail Management or equivalent experience.
    • 5+ years experience in Transportation / Distribution / Supply Chain Management.
    • Must be strategic and analytical, grasping complex situations and quickly developing plans to deliver results.
    • Must be well versed in warehouse operations.
    • Must possess excellent leadership and communication skills.
    • Has demonstrated the ability to successfully develop talent within an organization.
    • Adheres to Pier 1 policies as defined in DC Associate Handbook including the Code of Conduct.
    • Regular on-time attendance.
    • Ability to work more than 40 hours per week, based on business needs.
    • Ability to work as scheduled, including weekends, evenings and holidays.
    • Ability to travel as required (DC Network meetings or for other special projects).
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
    • Ability to lift bulky merchandise on a regular basis.
    • Any other tasks as assigned.
