  • Overview

    The Manager Allocations is responsible for all merchandise allocation functions for assigned divisions and departments.  Lead the financial planning and execution throughout the entire lifecycle of a SKU.  Responsible for allocation strategy to support sales, gross margin, inventory management, and overall execution.  Assure accuracy and execution of allocations strategies as they relate to markdown timing, receipt management, open to buy forecasting, reporting and analysis.  Their financial goals will be achieved through cross functional teamwork and collaboration with all supporting business partners (planning/merchandising/stores/DCs/visual). 

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Develop and drive seasonal strategies that meet or exceed financial goals and customer expectations in partnership with Merchandising through analysis and reporting of prior performance and current trends.  Identify inventory levels needed to support sales objectives based on sell through goals, exit dates, visual strategy, minimum levels and gross margin target.  Influence optimum flow of purchase orders to support sales and inventory objectives for all distribution centers.  Develop allocation strategies and Allocation system parameters at the store and store group level to support sales and visual objectives. Partner with Merchandise Planning and Allocations as well as Field Leadership to develop store traits based on size, geography and demographic data.
    • Partner with Merchandising in the development of financial plans. Influence overall purchase decisions to have appropriate quantities in stores to drive sales and maximize marketing strategy. Forecast allocation and store receipts to support plan.  Analyze sales and inventory against financial goals and make recommendations to future order quantities to achieve sales and inventory objectives. 
    • Lead, motivate, train, and develop a team of Allocations Analysts to assure adherence to financial plan, replenishment and in-stock levels to support visual standards, retail event mailers and other seasonal marketing initiatives. Review SKU level forecasts of Allocations Analysts as necessary to ensure ability to drive sales through optimum inventory levels and store/SKU parameters. Manage and review the process of the Allocations Analysts recommending items for promotional marketing, re-buy status and markdown.
    • Conduct regular meetings with Merchandising and Planning to discuss sales, inventory, marketing and competition to drive financial performance.  Review prior seasons performance through analysis and reporting to develop future strategies.
    • Conduct regular visits to Pier 1 stores and competition to review sales, strategic opportunities, merchandise assortment, markdowns and visual presentation.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • 5 – 10 years experience
    • Proven people management skills
    • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
    • Problem solving ability
    • Microsoft Excel skills
    • Detail oriented, effective time management skills and ability to multi-task
