Overview

The Enterprise Systems Administrator is responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining all Windows based hardware and virtual machines. Key responsibilities include health monitoring and patching servers, daily monitoring of mail queue, incident queue, system change requests and hardware break/fix issues. This position requires participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

 

The Enterprise Systems Administrator is accountable for the availability, security and integrity of all Pier 1 Imports Windows server systems. Periodic reports of systems operations and status are essential to the company for maintaining regulatory compliance.  This position will interface and collaborate with other infrastructure and applications team members in the course of handling day to day responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Rack, configure and deploy server hardware
  • Deploy new virtual machines
  • Convert aging physical servers to virtual machines
  • Monitor server hardware and software for performance or hardware issues
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to support failed hardware
  • Test and apply monthly security patches to all systems
  • Monitor and manage the team incident queue
  • On-call rotation - provide 24x7 support for Windows server operating system, hardware and minor application support.
  • Work closely with senior members of the team and escalate issues as needed.

Education & Experience

  • 2-5 years overall applicable experience
  • VMWare 1-3 years experience needed
  • Service Fabric 1-3 years experience a plus
  • Microsoft 365 experience
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • MCSA or MTA certification highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of windows operating systems needed
  • Dell hardware experience a plus
  • Good understanding of IP networking, performance monitoring tools (SCOM)
  • Working knowledge of virtual machine deployment, physical to virtual conversions, basic PowerShell scripting experience, RAID, HBA, NIC teaming, load balancing
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends during maintenance and on-call.
  • This position is on-call 24/7 periodically throughout the year.
  • Must be able to lift equipment up to 50+ pounds such as server chassis during installation procedures.
