Pier 1 Imports is looking for a motivated Sr. SQL Server Database Administrator to design, maintain, and monitor production and non-production SQL Server relational databases for Pier 1 Imports.   

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Size and provide specifications for new virtual and physical SQL database servers
  • Installation of SQL Server 2012,2014, SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
  • Evaluate service packs and provide minimal risk based strategy for implementation.
  • Establish and maintain standards, policies, configuration guidelines and procedures
  • Provide on-call support for production environments in a 3-man weekly rotation
  • Monitor databases for resource utilization. Initiate corrective action to ensure all database servers meet processing requirements for performance and reliability
  • Performance tuning and query optimization
  • Create and maintain SQL server replication
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive library of all supporting documentation
  • Participate in database design process
  • Work closely with application teams and identify potential performance problems and offer advice
  • Management of databases, schemas, tables, views, indexes, stored procedures, triggers and declarative integrity constraints
  • Work with Security team to secure all databases and maintain security posture
  • Backup and Recovery (Policy, Process and Operation)
  • Create, edit and maintain SSIS Packages, SSRS reports & SSAS cubes.
  • Create, test and document custom stored procedures
  • Space management and growth plans
  • Database maintenance plans

Education & Experience

  • 5+ years as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA. (3+ years SQL Server 2012 or higher)
  • 5+ years as a DBA supporting a production environment.
  • 3+ years programming experience in SQL.
  • Experience with Powershell scripting
  • Strong experience with writing, configuring, and troubleshooting SSIS packages
  • 3+ years experience with advanced database clustering/ Always On / Mirroring/ Replication technologies.
  • Experience with VMWare
  • Experience with Spotlight and other monitoring solutions
  • Automation skills with restores and data refreshes
  • In depth knowledge related to computer hardware. (servers, networks, SAN, RAID devices, I/O subsystems)
  • Strong working experience with Microsoft operating systems. (Windows 2008 – Windows 2012 R2)
  • Expertise with table/index design.
  • Understanding of project management and ability to provide and manage scope definition, project plans, risk assessment and reporting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodology such as KANBAN is preferred
  • Exposure to other development languages and applications such as Power BI, Crystal Reports, ASP, Java, and HTML is a plus.
  • SQL Server certification is a plus.
  • Experience with other database vendors is a plus (Oracle, Teradata, and MySQL)
