  • Overview

    The Employee Relations Manager provides counsel and guidance to organizational leaders and associates to maintain positive employee relations. This position also leads a solution-oriented team of Associate HR Managers in the resolution of associate work-related issues while ensuring that Pier 1 Import's policies and procedures related to EEO, Anti-Harassment, Open Door, as well as, State, Provincial, Local and Federal Laws are accurately applied.  In addition, this role will participate in the design and execution of HR related projects and initiatives.    

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Leads, develops and supports HR team. Provides guidance on all escalated employee relations matters to ensure that issues are brought to a timely and effective resolution.
    • Provides direction, insight and counsel to managers and associates on a variety of issues (harassment and discrimination, misconduct, workplace violence, sub-standard performance, performance improvement documentation, etc.) utilizing knowledge of Pier 1 Imports Vision/Values, policies and procedures and the basic parameters of employment laws and liabilities. Manage the investigative process for internal complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other high-risk employment issues. Investigate more complex complaints and propose appropriate actions.
    • Evaluates and assesses employee relations trends, periodically provides data to other partners and leaders and makes recommendations for improvement of problematic trends. Assists in identifying developmental needs of team and leaders on the skills that will help minimize and prevent employee relations issues. 
    • In close partnership with the Legal department, researches, understands, and communicates introduction of or changes to employment laws requiring action from the Company. Assembles and leads cross-functional teams as necessary to implement processes, procedures, policies to ensure compliance with all employment laws and regulations. Identifies and implements efficient processes to ensure compliance in the area of state- or city-mandated training.
    • Provides guidance on the design and execution of HR related projects and initiatives. Will partner with those required to ensure communication and implementation of each project effectively meets the needs of the business.  Evaluates company policies and makes any necessary recommendations for change.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
    • Five or more years of experience required
    • Strong communicator with solid employee relations experience, people management experience, active listening skills, sound judgement
    • Demonstrated ability to translate federal, state, and local employment laws into effective company policies and procedures
