  • Overview

    The LOA Specialist provides support to Home Office, Stores and DCs in the areas of leave of absence, HR tracking, analysis/reporting and accommodations. In addition, this role will ensure integrity and consistency in the application and interpretation of Leave of Absence and Light Duty policies by addressing questions and keeping the company in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations related to FMLA, Workers Compensation, Military, and ADA (ADAAA).

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Conduct interactive process with associates, direct Supervisor and HR Business Partners as necessary regarding requests for reasonable accommodations. Conducts separations for associates who have completed interactive process and is assessed as unable to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • LOA/Light Duty Case Management - Manages LOA (FMLA, State, Medical, Military and Personal Leaves) and Light Duty files including coordinating return to work process with HR Business Partners and Home Office/Store/DC Management for both non work-related situations and work related injuries. Applies state and federal laws and guidelines to LOA's, while ensuring consistent application of FMLA and Worker's Compensation. Reviews leave requests received, determines eligibility and approves leave and light duty within assigned geography. Partners with HR Business Partners regarding an associates request and/or work restrictions to identify potential ADA issues, which may require consideration of a reasonable accommodation. Communicates with WC regarding updates on work status for WC files. Makes separation decisions, follows separation processes and communicates to impacted associates.
    • Escalate high risk issues to inside or outside legal counsel. Serve as the point of contact for EEOC and other investigations related to disability charges. Communicate state and federal law updates to HR Business Partners as they relate to LOA. Ensure HIPAA standards are upheld and applied consistently. California and other state required leave law tracking. Miscellaneous task/assignments as required.

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • 3 – 5 years experience required
    • Expertise on federal, state, and local laws related all aspects of LOA
    • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make sound decisions
    • People Soft experience helpful
