  • Overview

    The Claims Manager develops and implements strategic initiatives to reduce claim loss frequency, severity and claim costs for the Company.  This person creates and manages procedures and practices for achieving optimal outcomes for workers' compensation claims and directly manages performance of third party administrator(s) and attorneys with respect to claim file reviews and action plans. The ideal candidate manages monopolistic states and Canadian Workers' Compensation programs and requirements.   This person also manages corporate OSHA reporting requirements and assists the Senior Claims Manager as assigned on special projects and presentations.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Manages all workers' compensation claims processes including setting reserves, action plans, depositions, settlement negotiations/mediations and litigation.  Manages the third party administrator adjusters regarding workers' compensation claims by conducting claims reviews, establishing best practices in claims handling instructions, benchmarking performance standards, and the operation of third party administrator reporting systems.  Oversees workers' compensation claim related photo, video and physical evidence organization.  Serves as a Crisis Incident Line responder.  Analyzes all workers' compensation claims and accident trends for frequency, severity, cost and location and creates actionable reporting to support Risk Management and Loss Prevention initiatives.
    • Responsible for administering the Workers' Compensation program in monopolistic states and the Canadian provinces.  Manages claims and the regulatory processes to minimize premiums.  Maintains compliance with the state or provincial requirements.  Travels to the monopolistic states and Canada to coordinate these programs with the agencies and the third party administrator.  Responsible for expense forecasting for these programs.
    • Manages the corporate reporting requirements from OSHA.  Serves as the record keeper for all OSHA events.  Responsible to file OSHA reportable claims within each state's designated timeframes.  Responsbile for the annual OSHA reporting compliance.  Must remain current on changes in OSHA  reporting requirements.

    Education & Experience

    • 4 – year college degree required
    • 5 – 10 years experience
    • Proficiency at Excel, Word and PowerPoint
    • Familiarity with various third party administrator systems or RMIS systems is a plus.
    • Up to 10-15% travel: Stores, DC's, claims reviews, governmental agencies, depositions, educational conferences
    • Must be able to build relationships throughout the Company.
    • Must be seen as a "helper" to the business units - a team player that helps control claims costs and keeps our associates injury free.
